4 day Flinders Ranges/Arkaroola Tour

ITINERARY

DAY 1: Depart Adelaide at approximately 7:00am for our Aboriginal cultural experience in the Northern Flinders Ranges, one of Australia’s most beautiful and rugged areas.

Our first stop is Port Augusta, where we explore the Flinders Ranges and Outback and take an optional tour at Wadlata Outback Centre’s Tunnel of Time where we discover its origins, the Aboriginal Dreaming, European settlement and much more. After morning tea we head towards Wilpena Pound via Quorn and Hawker. From Hawker we visit Kanyaka ruins.

Its then on to Wilpena Resort for our first night in the Flinders Ranges.

DAY 2: Today we head to Arkaroola via Brachina Gorge. This Gorge traces the geological history of the Flinders Ranges for hundreds of million years. We can then visit Parachilna’s Prairie Hotel for some Aussie tucker (optional).

After morning tea we head to Iga Warta, where we spend some time learning about the Adnymathanha culture and environment. Today we can also participate in a bush tucker walk and/or an Aboriginal art walk. This evening, after dinner, we spend some time sitting around a campfire sampling traditional damper with quandong jam, and listening to stories and music of the Adnyamathanha People. Overnight we stay at Iga Warta.

DAY 3: After breakfast we head to Arkaroola. We visit the nearby Yudnamutana Gorge – one of Australia’s deepest gorges. We also visit Stubbs Waterhole – an expanse of still water in a delightful setting, reflecting the green foliage of gum trees and the blue the sky. The waterhole is set deep between towering steeply tilted layers of rock formed from the debris dropped by melting icebergs around 700 million years ago. Overnight we stay at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary.

DAY 4: We depart Arkaroola for Adelaide via Blinman. After lunch at Wilpena Resort we head to Quorn, driving through Buckaringa Gorge and Warren Gorge (time permitting). We enjoy some afternoon tea at Melrose and then it’s on to Adelaide. We arrive back in Adelaide at approximately 6:00pm.
