2 Day Yorke Peninsula

Day One

We depart Adelaide at approximately 7:00 am for the Yorke Peninsula, travelling via Port Wakefield. Our first stop is for morning tea in Wallaroo, which was first surveyed in 1860. Today Wallaroo is one of South Australia's best known holiday areas, so popular for its safe swimming beach. After morning tea we stretch our legs with a walk along the jetty.

We then head to Moonta, which, in 1861 was one of the richest copper mines in Australia. You have the option to visit the Wheal Hughes Copper Mine where you can experience the underground tunnel and cathedral-like workings of the mine.

If time permits in Maitland (an agricultural town with the main crop of barley), we visit The Gap and Tiparra Rocks.

Our next stop is for lunch in Port Victoria, and a stroll along the jetty and beach. Then we make our way to Marion Bay, a small town nestled in coastal scrubland, that borders Innes National Park.

We stay at Marion Bay
overnight, or you have the option to camp in tents in Innes National Park.

Day Two

After breakfast we enjoy a stroll on the safe, sheltered beach of Marion Bay. Then we head into Innes National Park for a look at the spectacular ancient coastline. Innes National Park is one of the jewels of South Australia's vast National Parks. It covers 9100 hectares and provides some of Australia's most spectacular coastal scenery. The park is rich in mining and seafaring history. We follow this spectacular ancient coastline that has claimed many ships (including The Ethel Ferret, which we visit).

After our visit to Innes National Park we begin our trip back to Adelaide. We follow the scenic drive that follows the coast to Edithburgh, stopping at Kangaroo Island Lookout along the way.

From Edithburgh we follow the coast, visiting the towns of Stansbury and Port Vincent, which is set in a beautiful sweeping bay, with a backdrop of steep, timber covered cliffs. We stretch our legs at Port Vincent, with a 2km foreshore walk, which winds its way to a cliff lookout.

We then travel on to Ardrossan and Port Wakefield, making our way back to Adelaide. We arrive at your accommodation at approximately 6:00 pm.
